Learning Disabilities
A learning disability is typically diagnosed when a child’s academic achievement falls below expected ability level. However, there are many children who may not fall into this rigid categorization who still struggle in school. These children may demonstrate less developed skills in one or several areas.  As a result of their school struggles they may appear inattentive, anxious, depressed, and have low self esteem.  A thorough and comprehensive evaluation that addresses cognitive, academic, and emotional functioning can determine a child’s learning strengths and weaknesses so academic or behavior interventions can be implemented.  

The first step in this process, is having a brief phone conversation with one of the evaluators.  After determining the necessity for the evaluation, an appointment will be set for parents only.  In this appointment, which typically lasts 60-90 minutes,  we will discuss the reason for the evaluation and gather all significant family  and education history to help develop and individualize appropriate battery of cognitive , academic, and neurological tests and procedures to answer the referal question. 

Testing sessions are typically 6-8 hours and are organized at times that are most beneficial to the student's energy and attention.  Testing sessions are either 2 hours conducted over 3 days or 3-4 hours conducted over 2 days.  The specific arranagement will be decided at the time of intake once we discuss your child's specific needs. 

After tests are scored and data is interpretated, we will meet again to discuss test results and recommendations.
